A Seaside community w/breathtaking view of Kachemak Bay!

Homer_Spit_Coach_view.jpg
"A" List this lovely seaside town. We camped on the "Spit" which is a narrow 2 mile long penninsula jetting out from the south western tip of Homer. Our views of glaciers, mountain ranges & oceans were spectaclar! Eagles galoore-several roosts located along the Spit. We watched one munch on a salmon. The Spit is home to all the water activities (fishing, kayaking, water taxis) Homer2__84_1.jpg
Jimboni & I took a Kayak tour out to Otter Cove-nice 4 hour paddle with sea otters, puffins & lots of birds. Homer_Otter.jpg
All of the surrounding islands are accessable via water taxis or small aircraft Homer is considered the Halibut Capitol!!!

ANCHORAGE, ALASKA

"HALF HOUR FROM ALASKA"

-17 °C

The Biggest City of Alaska w/a full on International Airport! Everything you need is here, plus fishing...We picked up our kiddos for a 1 nite stay in Anchorage. Out for pizza then on to the Kenai Penninsula for 1 week of fishing! It is true, from Anchorage - it's just a 1/2 hour drive to the wild frontier of Alaska! Anchorage has everything, shopping, sports, entertainment & wildlife (check out the moose photo!) We were leaving Patty's house after dinner one nite & surprise-surprise a Moose was strooling her neighborhood. Too Cool!Shut_moose..AK__68_.jpgAnchor_Kids__15_.jpg

FAIRBANKS, ALASKA

The Heart of Alaska's Great Interior Country

sunny -17 °C

Fairbanks__3_.jpgWe sort of chilled out here - didn't do all the traditional sight-seeing stuff. Just hung out & caught up on stuff. We kayaked the Chena River & ended up racing another couple to the finish. Love goin' w/the flow... Lots of great things to see, but we chose to just hang w/the locals.

TANGLE LAKES, ALASKA

Denali Hwy.-Spectacular Scenery & Uncrowded Campgrounds!

sunny

blog2_Tang..es__51_.jpg Wow! Love this place! 130 miles of gravel, but we only went about 10 of it to find this (dry-camping) campground. Pretty rugged for us to get our big RV into, but Jimboni likes the challenge! Lots of mosquitos, so we wore hat nets to cover our faces. Except V - why? Because I take my garlic pill everyday while in Alaska & those boogers don't seem to land & bite me-yippee! Loaded w/fish & very popular for canoe/kayakers. In fact, the campground was busier than usual because there was a big kayak tour group in there for the weekend. Local Alaskans love this place! Me too.
Can you find our rig?

GULKANA - REVISITED...

CHASING THE KING SALMON RUN!

semi-overcast 49 °C

Gulkana__4_.jpgAfter departing beautiful Valdez & heading to Fairbanks - we felt the call of the Gulkana River calling us. So, we dry camped in the parking lot for 1 more shot @ catching a big King! Jimboni raced down to the river where he proceeded to make his wifee very happy-catching another big KS. After catching, cleaning, fileting, prepping in seal a meal - we hit the sack @ about 3am. Ahhhh....so many rivers, so little time.
