DENALI NATIONAL PARK

MT. MC KINNEY

sunny -17 °C

IMG_4261.jpgDenali_Nat_Park__68_.jpgDenali_Nat_Park__30_.jpgThe Athabascan/Alaskans named this 20,320-ft. mountian- Denali--the High One. This has got to be an "A" List for National Parks. No cars allowed after the 1st 14 miles, so no log jammin' bad drivin' tourists. The wild life is free to roam & we saw just about all of the park's specieces-yippee! A 13 hour round trip bus ride took us out to the furthest point & back. Worth it for the wild life viewing. Top knotch for hiking & wonderful Huskey-dog sledding program. Jim took a wild river kayak ride. Another something for everyone place. Clear day, so we got to see the whole mountain!!!

FAIRBANKS, ALASKA

The Heart of Alaska's Great Interior Country

sunny -17 °C

Fairbanks__3_.jpgWe sort of chilled out here - didn't do all the traditional sight-seeing stuff. Just hung out & caught up on stuff. We kayaked the Chena River & ended up racing another couple to the finish. Love goin' w/the flow... Lots of great things to see, but we chose to just hang w/the locals.

TANGLE LAKES, ALASKA

Denali Hwy.-Spectacular Scenery & Uncrowded Campgrounds!

sunny

blog2_Tang..es__51_.jpg Wow! Love this place! 130 miles of gravel, but we only went about 10 of it to find this (dry-camping) campground. Pretty rugged for us to get our big RV into, but Jimboni likes the challenge! Lots of mosquitos, so we wore hat nets to cover our faces. Except V - why? Because I take my garlic pill everyday while in Alaska & those boogers don't seem to land & bite me-yippee! Loaded w/fish & very popular for canoe/kayakers. In fact, the campground was busier than usual because there was a big kayak tour group in there for the weekend. Local Alaskans love this place! Me too.
Can you find our rig?

GULKANA - REVISITED...

CHASING THE KING SALMON RUN!

semi-overcast 49 °C

Gulkana__4_.jpgAfter departing beautiful Valdez & heading to Fairbanks - we felt the call of the Gulkana River calling us. So, we dry camped in the parking lot for 1 more shot @ catching a big King! Jimboni raced down to the river where he proceeded to make his wifee very happy-catching another big KS. After catching, cleaning, fileting, prepping in seal a meal - we hit the sack @ about 3am. Ahhhh....so many rivers, so little time.
